With a beautifully adorned acoustic guitar in hand — its intricate gold detailing catching the stage lights — Jackson delivered a spirited rendition of his hit classic “Chattahoochee” that had the audience clapping along from the very first note.

While Jackson’s performance at Opry 100: A Live Celebration was a joyful moment for many, online viewers expressed deep concern over his appearance and physical state. Social media quickly became flooded with reactions, with many noting that the country legend didn’t seem well.
“Poor Alan I [sic] was out of breath listening to him struggle through this,” one person remarked. “He’s sick, so sad 🙁,” added another.

Others speculated about Jackson’s condition after noticing his apparent discomfort. In response to a Facebooker asking what was wrong, another replied, “I was just saying the same thing. Looks like he was in some pain.” Someone else echoed the sentiment, wondering, “what’s [sic] wrong with him? I saw that also.”
Some viewers were particularly alarmed by the way Jackson moved on stage. “Why was he having trouble walking off stage? I wonder what happened to him,” one person questioned.

Another observed, “i know he,s the best so sad to watch him need assistance to walk across the stage [sic].”
For longtime fans, seeing Jackson in a seemingly frail state was an emotional experience. “It’s hard seeing these rare country gems getting older,” one person expressed. Another shared, “Breaks my heart to see him aging!! 💔🎶,” prompting someone else to respond, “he’s [sic] got a nerve disease!”
Alan Jackson first opened up about his health struggles in 2021 during an exclusive interview with Today’s Jenna Bush Hager.
Speaking from the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, the country legend revealed that he had been quietly battling Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT), a degenerative nerve condition that affects mobility and balance.
“I have this neuropathy and neurological disease. It’s genetic that I inherited from my daddy … There’s no cure for it, but it’s been affecting me for years. And it’s getting more and more obvious,” he disclosed at the time.
The disorder, which impacts the peripheral nervous system, weakens smaller muscles in the extremities, leading to difficulty walking and balancing — challenges that Jackson had begun experiencing more noticeably on stage.
“I know I’m stumbling around […] And now I’m having a little trouble balancing, even in front of the microphone,” he admitted, adding that it made him feel “very uncomfortable.”
While CMT is not life-threatening, it falls under the same umbrella as muscular dystrophy and Parkinson’s disease. “It’s not going to kill me,” Jackson explained, though he acknowledged that the condition has no cure and requires ongoing management.
Despite these health challenges, the “Livin’ on Love” singer made it clear that he had no plans to step away from music entirely.
He expressed his distaste for elaborate farewell tours, saying, “I never wanted to do the big retirement tour, like people do, then take a year off and then come back […] I’ll try to do as much as I can.”
Through it all, Jackson has leaned on the unwavering support of his wife, Denise, whom he married more than four decades ago. “When I’m down, he lifts me up. When he’s down, I try to lift him up,” she shared.
For Jackson, his greatest legacy isn’t just his awards or accolades — it’s the music itself. “I’ve always believed that the music is the most important thing. The songs. And I guess that’s what I’d like to (leave) if I had a legacy,” he reflected.
His wife agreed, adding that their grandchildren and future generations will always have his songs as a window into their lives and love story.
Despite the challenges posed by his health, Jackson has made it clear that his love for music remains unwavering. His recent performance at the Grand Ole Opry during Opry 100: A Live Celebration was proof that his passion for country music still burns bright.

The Grand Ole Opry, a legendary institution in country music, has been a cornerstone of the genre since 1925, bringing together both legendary artists and rising stars on its iconic stage. Week after week, the Opry House in Nashville — fondly known as Music City — hosts unforgettable performances that connect artists with devoted fans.
As part of the Opry’s 100th-anniversary celebration, Jackson took his place in the famous wooden circle, joining the ranks of country music’s biggest names.
With a lineup that constantly evolves, the Opry remains a one-of-a-kind experience where no two shows are ever the same. Jackson’s presence at this milestone event further cemented his status as a country music icon, reminding fans of the timeless impact of his music.
Aside from his recent performance at the Grand Ole Opry, Jackson has been busy with his tour, giving fans across the nation a chance to see him live on stage once more.
In May 2024, Jackson officially announced the continuation of his Last Call: One More for the Road Tour, which originally wowed sold-out crowds in 2022.
Having already performed several shows last year (2024) and a few this year, the rest of the 2025 leg of the tour will take him to two more cities across the United States, with each stop marking the last time he will perform in that area.
“Some of the best times are had right at last call, and this is one last call that you don’t want to miss!” Jackson declared in the announcement on his website.
The tour promises to bring fans exactly what they’ve come to expect from the Country Music Hall of Famer — a night packed with the songs that have defined his career, from “Chattahoochee” to “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere.”
Having spent over 30 years on the road, Jackson is embracing a new chapter of life, one that includes more time at home with his family.
“My daughters are all grown, we have one grandchild and one on the way…and I’m enjoying spending more time at home. But my fans always show up to have a good time, and I’m going to give them the best show I can for this Last Call,” he noted.
The Last Call Tour is also a deeply personal endeavor for Jackson. A portion of every ticket sold will be donated to the CMT Research Foundation, supporting research for Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease — the very condition that Jackson has been battling for years.
Jackson kicked things off in Boston on August 2, 2024. From there, he went from coast to coast, making stops in cities like Grand Rapids, Kansas City, Salt Lake City, and Fort Worth.
According to his website, he will conclude in Milwaukee on May 17, 2025. With VIP experiences available and a portion of proceeds going toward CMT research, this farewell tour is shaping up to be both a heartfelt send-off and a celebration of Jackson’s enduring impact on country music.
